Long Son Pagoda: The sacred pagoda in the heart of Nha Trang

Exploring a 100-Year-Old Ancient Pagoda in Nha Trang Khanh Hoa – the land of agarwood, is renowned for its serene and poetic landscapes. Deeply influenced by Buddhism, the region’s spiritual essence is reflected not only in its breathtaking scenery but also in the way of life of its people. Long Son Pagoda, one of the most significant Buddhist landmarks in Khanh Hoa, is not only a beautiful spiritual site but also a place of great religious importance, playing a crucial role in the Buddhist faith of both the past and present. 1. History of Long Son Pagoda Long Son Pagoda was originally built on a mountain in 1886 by Venerable Thich Ngo Chi (1856–1935). He was a native of Vinh Xuong District, Khanh Hoa Province, who, in his youth, joined the anti-French resistance movement before later devoting his life to Buddhism. In 1900 (Year of the Rat – Canh Ty), after a severe storm, the temple was relocated from the mountain to its current location. By 1936, it was chosen as the headquarters of the Khanh Hoa Buddhist Association. In 1940, the pagoda underwent major renovations, primarily thanks to the efforts of Ton That Quyen (Association President) and Buddhist devotee Vo Dinh Thuy. However, in 1968, the temple suffered severe damage due to war bombings, causing its roof tiles to collapse. In 1971, Venerable Thich Thien Binh took charge of the restoration project. By 1975, only 60% of the reconstruction had been completed, following the architectural designs of architect Vo Dinh Diep.
